Jeffrey “Mac” McDonough is a freelance recording engineer in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Mac specializes in audio restoration, mixing, and mastering. He began his recording career in the 1980s, using a TASCAM Portastudio and a beat-up Shure SM58. In the 1990s, Mac interned in studios around the Michiana area. He then began tracking and mixing demos in an ADAT-based project studio. Later, he graduated with honors from the Audio Institute of America. In 2007, Mac began working at Sweetwater Sound.
Mac built his current studio around an Apple computer running Pro Tools Ultimate. A plethora of other audio-based apps and plug-ins are also on tap. Apogee converters and an ultra-clean analog signal path ensure top-notch sound quality.
Some recording engineers view audio restoration as an afterthought, and home-brewed recordings aren’t worth their time and attention. That’s not the case with Mac. He loves solving the unique audio challenges that attorneys, law enforcement, and other professionals face. Mac also relishes the opportunity to make home recordings sound like high-end productions.
